The Laurel School District seeks a forward-thinking, enthusiastic, and proven leader to guide the district to new levels of high student achievement. The Superintendent of Schools serves as the chief executive officer of the school district and is responsible to the Board of Trustees for ensuring compliance with all board policies, Mississippi State Board of Education rules and regulations, and state and federal laws.
All applications must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on October 13, 2017. The successful candidate will assume leadership of the Laurel School District on or before January 1, 2018.
The Superintendent of Schools serves as the chief executive officer of the school district and is responsible to the Board of Trustees for ensuring compliance with all board policies, Mississippi State Board of Education rules and regulations, and state and federal laws. Candidates will be evaluated on their professional merits, with emphasis on the following criteria:
Holds a valid Mississippi administrative license or eligibility to obtain one
Has classroom or administrative experience of not less than six years which shall include at least three years of administrative experience as a school building principal (1) in a school with an “A” or “B” accountability rating, (2) in a school that increased its accountability rating by a letter grade during the period in which the candidate was employed as principal at the school, (3) in a school with comparable accountability rating or improvement in another state which shall be verified by the Mississippi Department of Education, or (4) served as a superintendent or assistant superintendent within the last five years.

Additional Salary Information: The salary for this position is $135,000, which is subject to negotiation based on performance, experience, education, qualifications.

The league... focuses on developing the oral, written, and critical thinking skills of fourth-and fifth-grade students and provides students the opportunity for competition and skills development. The teams compete annually in Atlanta Urban Debate’s Elementary Debate League Tournament.High-quality arts programs are offered at all grade levels. Nora Davis Magnet School is a Mississippi Arts Commission Whole Schools Initiative Model School for the Arts. The Whole Schools Initiative expands regular classroom instruction to include the arts and promotes collaborations between arts and classroom teachers to create arts-infused instruction. The school has been a member of the Whole Schools Initiative since 1999 and has continued to receive the Model School designation each year since.Along with excellence in academics and arts, the Laurel School District is home to one of the finest athletic programs in the state.
