This position serves as administrative officer of the school, reporting directly to the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary or Secondary Education. As the principal of a school, the position provides educational, instructional, and operational leadership. The principal is the model of integrity and ethical behavior for staff, students, parents, and key stakeholders. Responsibilities include providing leadership aligned and committed to the District’s 5-year Strategic Plan for the continual improvement of educational programs for all students; a commitment to equity and building a diverse school community; planning, organizing, coordinating, and evaluating programs and services within the school; maintaining positive staff relationships with all stakeholders of the Northshore School District; directing staffing and budgetary decisions, and maintaining commitment to the District’s mission statement. The Principal:
Directs, implements, and evaluates the building instructional program, creating a positive school environment for students and staff.
Fosters an understanding of school programs and services by establishing school/community relations and involving the public meaningfully in the academics and activities of the school.
Supervises, evaluates, and motivates assigned staff. Provides leadership in developing a shared vision, aligning curriculum, instruction, and assessment with State and District goals and performance measures.
Nurtures a positive school environment that celebrates, respects, and values diversity, where teaching and learning are made relevant and meaningful to students of various cultures.
Initiates activities and discussions that lead to increased cultural competence of staff, informing and expanding teaching practices within classrooms.
Demonstrates committed collaboration with the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent and the executive staff, central office directors, principal colleagues, associations and unions to ensure systemic planning and implementation of the District’s Strategic Plan goals and measures.
Models instructional leadership and demonstrates a strong commitment to equitable outcomes for all students.
Leads staff in the use and facilitation of technology in the delivery of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
Participates in and provides professional development, and models current and best instructional practices.
Manages the effective operation of the school within allocated resources and district and state regulations.
Master’s degree and valid Washington State principal and teacher certificates
A minimum of three years transferable experience as a successful classroom teacher
