Wheaton Academy, a private Christian high school in the western suburbs of Chicago, is accepting applications for a full-time special education teacher for the 2019-2020 school year. Wheaton Academy has 650 students, 25% of which are from ethnically diverse backgrounds. The school is committed to a culturally diverse faculty and student body.
The Wheaton Academy teacher is part of a dynamic team who are seeking to nurture growth in high school students through relationships, excellence, and service to the glory of God. He or she accomplishes this goal by integrating biblical values and helping challenge students to meet high educational standards in the classroom, using innovative curriculum that is centered on a caring student/teacher relationship.
The Special Education teacher is instrumental in helping students with different learning needs succeed at Wheaton Academy by partnering with students and classroom teachers, and also inviting parents to participate in their student’s educational progress. This individual understands, builds, and maintains Wheaton Academy’s Kingdom Community values that honor the wide spectrum of people in the Kingdom of God. This person will work with students who have a wide range of learning styles, adapting general education lessons and teaching various subjects to students.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree (B.A.) or (B.S.) from four-year college or university and a valid Illinois teaching license or ACSI Teacher Certification. A Master’s Degree in Special Education is preferred but not required. The ideal candidate will have experience working with multiple disabilities, including autism spectrum, ADD and ADHD, learning disabilities and developmental delays.
The Wheaton Academy Teacher must be a spiritually sensitive individual who understands the mission and philosophy of Wheaton Academy. He/she must be a born-again Christian with spiritual maturity in academic and leadership abilities that will enable him/her to teach God’s truth. This individual must maintain active participation in a protestant evangelical church.
