About Lycee Francais de New York
Founded in 1935, the Lycée Français de New York is one of the most renowned bilingual French-American
schools in the world. Located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and an independent non-profit
institution, the school had an enrollment of about 1370 boys and girls from pre-K to 12th grade in school
Being part of the Lycée community means much more than living, teaching and learning in two languages.
Our community members, which include some 300 teachers and support staff as well as 950 parents and 10,000+ alumni, represent well over 65 different nationalities from around the world. Every day they enjoy the beauty and challenge of working and living in a multilingual, pluricultural environment.
Lycée students, faculty and staff learn to see the world from different points of view, and to celebrate and
embrace differences. They learn what it means to be in America, what makes the American educational
system strong, and also what innovative educational programs can be created from the unique marriage of
our core French and American cultures complemented by so many others from around the world.
In a world connected ever further by technology, commerc...e, travel and cultural exchange, the Lycée
believes strongly that bringing an international educational community together in the spirit of
multilateralism, dialogue, openness and understanding is a most extraordinary way to prepare young
people to lead and shape a more peaceful world. We hope our teachers (and students!) carry what they
have learned at our Lycée to wherever and whomever they teach throughout their lives.
