The Georgetown County School District Board of Education is seeking an outstanding educational leader to serve as superintendent. Georgetown County School District enrolls more than 9,000 students in grades preschool through 12 and employs over 1,350 staff members. The district encompasses 813 square miles and serves students in 10 elementary schools, one intermediate school, six middle schools, four high schools, an alternative learning center, and an adult education center.
Georgetown lies on the South Carolina coastline near five rivers. The community has a highly diversified economic base and is famed for its beaches and excellent quality of life. USA Today recently named the town of Georgetown, the county seat, as one of the “Ten Best Coastal Towns in America.” The area boasts some of the best fishing and golf in South Carolina, a rich history, and a lively restaurant and shopping scene. Georgetown County is about a one-hour drive from Charleston and a two-hour drive from the state capital of Columbia, SC. Georgetown is also home to Georgetown-Horry Technical College and near the fast-growing Coastal Carolina University. Georgetown County is the location of the Belle Baruch Research Center which does cutting-edge research in the areas of coastal ecology and forestry.
Georgetown County School District is accredited by the South Carolina Department of Education and AdvancEd. Its General Fund budget totals more than $91.5 million, and its graduation rate is over 90%. Almost 62% percent of graduates attend college or some other form of continuing education. Qualifications for the superintendent The Georgetown County School District is seeking an innovative, visionary leader who will work in partnership with community stakeholders to provide equitable educational opportunities for all students. A proven record of success as a superintendent, assistant superintendent, or equivalent level administrative position, and a doctorate degree are preferred.
The successful candidate will have the following characteristics and skill set in these areas:
A belief in and commitment to high expectations and quality learning experiences for all students.
A deep understanding of teaching and learning and the ability to assess the effectiveness of instructional programs to make necessary adjustments if needed to assure the best interest of students.
The ability to develop cohesive and supportive instructional leadership teams at the district and school levels.
Practical knowledge of the functional areas of a school district including instruction, fiscal planning and accountability, and various support areas such as human resources, facility management, transportation, safety, and food service.
Commitment to effective strategies to attract and retain a qualified and diverse staff utilizing transparent hiring processes.
The ability to direct resources to classrooms to the greatest degree possible and also build community support for additional resources required to provide needed programs and services for a diverse student population.
A decisive, courageous leader who utilizes a participatory process to identify and solve complex district issues while also being willing to make difficult decisions to benefit students.
A leader with effective listening skills and the ability to actively engage with diverse groups of stakeholders.
An approachable, accessible communicator committed to visibility in all areas of the county.
Exhibits excellent communications skills and has experience in using technology as a communications tool.

Compensation / Term of employment The Board expects to offer a multi-year contract with a base salary up to $185,000 negotiable based on qualifications and experience plus a competitive benefits package. The Board desires the new superintendent to officially assume this position at a mutually agreeable time, but no later than July 1, 2020.
Licensure Applicants are required to hold or provide evidence of eligibility for a South Carolina superintendent’s certificate. Candidates are encouraged to obtain information about requirements for certification from the state’s Office of Educator Licensure at https://ed.sc.gov/educators/teaching-in-south-carolina/.
