The Archer School for Girls
The Archer School for Girls is seeking a skilled and experienced Upper School History teacher for a long-term maternity substitute position from mid-March to June and then from August to December 2021. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching 3 classes, serving as an advisor, and participating in co-curricular school activities. A desire to collaborate with colleagues and a commitment to encouraging the potential in every student is essential. Proficiency with technology is a must. The Archer School for Girls is an educational community that supports and challenges young women to discover their passions and realize their true potential. Serving 500 girls in grades 6-12, Archer’s joyful and ambitious learning environment is founded on the research about how girls learn best. The position involves teaching two courses in Spring 2021:
This course trains students in social science methods so that they can engage in political, social, and economic analysis of current global issues. Topics include Power, Politics, and Government; Gender and Sexuality; and the Environment and Challenges to the Planet.
Gender Studies examines the concept of gender through varying disciplines including psychology, biology, politics, and history. Topics include the historically changing representations of women, the history of the Feminist Movement in Western Europe and the United States, the gender division of labor, globalization, contemporary feminism, sexualities, and the intersection of gender, race, and class. The position involves teaching the following courses in Fall 2021:
Voice of Democracy is a semester-long exploration of our democratic system. Students examine the many systems and institutions that shape the political process, paying particular attention to political parties, campaign tactics, fundraising, interest groups, media, social media, and so on. For all courses, proficiency leading courageous conversations around identity is critical. We are looking for a long-term substitute who will contribute to our culture of excellence in teaching and learning.
