Senior Researcher, Center for Optimized Student Support Background: The Center for Optimized Student Support (COSS) at Boston College uses research and data to identify and evaluate strategies that successfully transform schools and communities into systems of opportunity for all students. We conduct interdisciplinary research that builds on the strengths of both science and practice to understand what it takes to produce a true opportunity for all. COSS houses the City Connects intervention, an innovative and evidence-based approach to addressing the out-of-school factors that can impact students’ achievement and thriving in schools. Implemented in over 90 schools across six states, City Connects engages districts, schools, and partnering community agencies to connect every student to a tailored set of supports and enrichments in the school and community. Core Responsibilities: ? Serve as a Principal Investigator or Senior Researcher for research projects that focus on analyzing the impact of intervention efforts, supporting the field to successfully scale interventions with proven impact, and generating new knowledge for consideration by the leadership team and key stakeholders: ? Lead education research projects in collaboration with other team members, from conceptualization to dissemination ? Collaboratively design evaluation and education research projects and select analytic methods ? Conduct statistical analyses with detailed written documentation that ensures analytic reproducibility ? Contribute to the maintenance of large data files and development of analytic data sets ? Create summaries, reports, and presentations for various audiences, including academic audiences, boards of research advisors, and school personnel ? Disseminate findings through conference presentations and manuscripts for publication ? Contribute to the development of grant proposals ? Mentor junior staff to increase quantitative and qualitative analytic capacity ? Enhance the quality, relevance, and usefulness of the Center’s research work Minimum Qualifications: ? Ph.D. degree in statistics, educational research, economics, developmental psychology, sociology, or related field ? Deep knowledge of research methodology from social science research and evaluation and demonstrated interest in the use of rigorous evidence ? Advanced proficiency in using STATA, SPSS, R, or similar statistical/analytical software ? Be committed to and passionate about opportunities to promote child and youth development through systematic student support in schools
Preferred Qualifications: ? At least 3 years of relevant post-doctoral research experience leading, managing, and collaborating on research projects ? An established track record in leading and/or coaching others to produce rigorous and highly useful research ? Extensive experience managing large datasets ? Experience in project management ? Experience with reviewing and/or conducting program evaluations Skills and Abilities: ? Self-motivated and proactive ? Exceptional organization skills and ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects with careful attention to detail ? Excellent oral and written communication skills ?
