PRIMARY JOB GOAL: Oversight and supervision of Middle and High School Athletics programs. This includes, but is not limited to, scheduling, budgeting, hiring and evaluation of coaches, and event management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Develops and maintains a highly competitive and sound athletics program reaching a standard of excellence consistent with the mission of the school district.
Coordinates the selection, assignment and evaluation of all coaching personnel. Evaluates varsity coaches each year.
Promotes academic excellence, character development, leadership qualities, and sportsmanship in student athletes.
Maintains and oversees academic records to determine athlete eligibility under district and MHSAA policies.
Serves as administrative liaison with the Athletic Boosters.
Implements and measures strategies to encourage student participation across a diverse student body.
Provides for proper supervision and event management staff at home and away contests as appropriate.
Responsible for athletic department compliance with MHSAA and applicable federal statutes including Title IX.
Responsible to the Director of Finance in the following areas: athletic budget, payment of bills, supervision of ticket sales, requisitions and purchase of athletic equipment, administration of insurance program, processing claims, and the development of maintenance schedules for all athletic facilities.
Maintains positive school/media/community relations through community awareness and involvement with the athletic program utilizing media and technology to enhance student-athlete and program exposure locally, regionally, and nationally.
Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate the following. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Teacher Certification preferred, Masters Degree in Administration or Athletics Administration preferred.
Five years of work experience in coaching (varsity level preferred), athletic administration, and/or related field required.
Strong management, leadership and organizational skills required.
Experience and working knowledge of employee relations and supervision of staff required.
Experience working with student athletes representing a broad demographic population preferred.
Experience collaborating with community recreation programs preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works both indoors and outdoors. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The employee must frequently work irregular or extended work hours while performing the duties of this job. The employee is responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of student coaches. The employee is required to regularly travel from site to site.
