THE POSITION: The Richland One Board of School Commissioners is seeking an outstanding educational leader to serve as superintendent of Richland County School District One in Columbia, South Carolina. A doctorate degree is preferred. The new superintendent will officially assume this position at a mutually agreeable time to the candidate and the Board, but no later than July 1, 2025. THE DISTRICT: Richland One is a nationally accredited school district building on a rich history and tradition of excellence. The 10th-largest of South Carolina’s 85 school districts, Richland One serves approximately 22,000 students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade at 28 elementary schools, nine middle schools, seven high schools, and eight special schools and centers. The district stretches over 480 square miles and encompasses urban, suburban and rural communities that surround and include Columbia, the Palmetto State’s capital city. One of the area’s largest employers, Richland One has more than 4,200 employees. Recognizing that students learn in different ways and have different interests and that parents want choices when it comes to the education of their children, Richland One’s diverse offerings including Montessori, language immersion, health sciences, virtual school and other magnet choice programs; career and technical education programs; world languages and multilingual learner programs; International Baccalaureate and other advanced academic programs; and visual and performing arts programs.

QUALIFICATIONS: Qualifications will be based on input from engagement with students, parents, staff, community members and other stakeholders. This information is anticipated to be available by late-March 2025.

The salary for the successful candidate will be nationally competitive and will be negotiated and determined based on experience, qualifications and meeting the criteria of the Board of School Commissioners. Applicants are required to hold or provide evidence of eligibility for the South Carolina Division Superintendent License.
